Mai Ly arrives at the house of a man whom she believes in a potential future employer of her boyfriend. She thinks she is just there to collect a job application for him, but during the conversation, she learns that her boyfriend is already working for this man in a not entirely legal capacity. To ensure that the boyfriend does his job and does not involve the police, he was told that something he valued would be held in collateral to ensure his good behaviour. Too late, Mai Ly realizes that she is that collateral. She tries to make a run for it, but the man grabs her and ties her up. When a phone call comes in and the man learns that Mai Ly's boyfriend has managed to get himself caught by the police, he decides to cut his losses and blow up the house with Mai Ly in it. He departs, leaving Mai Ly struggling in a right hogtie as the bomb counts down. She struggles frantically to reach the device, partially freeing herself from the ropes. She manages to halt the countdown just in time, but she can't get her wrists and ankles free, remaining trapped and helpless knowing that the criminal will soon return to find out why there was no explosion.
